The History of Fair Play at the Olympics

<p>The Olympic Games have celebrated fair play since ancient times. In ancient Greece, athletes swore an oath before the statue of Zeus, promising to compete fairly and abide by the rules.</p><p>The modern Olympic movement, founded by Pierre de Coubertin in 1896, placed fair play at its philosophical center. The Olympic Charter explicitly states that every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport without discrimination and in the Olympic spirit of friendship, solidarity, and fair play.</p>
